Working with Neurodiversity: Freud Lacan Institute Workshop in Dublin

I am excited to announce that I will be conducting a three-hour workshop on “Working with Neurodiversity” as part of the Program of Continuing Studies (PCS) at the Freud Lacan Institute in Dublin.

📅 Date: Saturday, June 15
⏰ Time: 10:00 – 13:30 Dublin-GMT
📍 Location: In-Person and via Zoom

The Freud Lacan Institute is a fantastic Dublin-based initiative dedicated to supporting and promoting psychoanalysis both in Ireland and internationally. It brings together clinicians, students, scholars, researchers, and anyone interested in Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis.

About the Program of Continuing Studies (PCS)

The PCS is a newly accredited program by APPI, offering practical, contemporary psychoanalytic theory and techniques to both new and experienced practitioners, students, trainees, and researchers. Committed to the transmission of Freudian Lacanian psychoanalysis, the program spans ten months with monthly modules featuring morning seminars and afternoon clinical group seminars. Participants can join individual modules or the entire program for training or accreditation purposes.

Workshop Details

In my session, we will explore the notion of neurodiversity, focusing particularly on autism. We will challenge major misconceptions about autism, such as the widely promoted lack of empathy hypothesis, and provide an alternative psychoanalytic perspective that emphasizes language use and transference.

Guided by Lacan’s response to a therapist working with autistic patients—”They don’t manage to hear what you have to say to them, insofar as you are caring for them… But, in the end, surely there is something to say to them.”—we will attempt to decipher the particular mode of listening required in working with autistic patients.
