The Lacanian Orientation

The fundamental principle of psychoanalysis lies in speaking freely and saying anything that comes to mind without reservation. Central to Lacanian psychoanalysis is the attention to one’s speech as it unfolds during the analytical session. Lacan insisted that when we speak there is a something that speaks through us. He famously said “It speaks” (ca parle), alluding to the unconscious which, acting as an foreign presence, becomes manifest in our discourse and is articulated in our body. In Lacanian psychoanalysis, one speaks with the aim of transforming symptomatic suffering into a desire or a distinctive form of satisfaction emanating from the same source. The analysand speaks, while the analyst listens. By elaborating on their memories, dreams, fantasies, etc., the analysand endeavors to bring about a significant shift in perspective – a transformation in their subjective position.

I offer psychoanalysis sessions for those interested in the Lacanian orientation. If you are interested in psychoanalysis, in this page you will find basic information that you might find useful.

The Course of the Treatment

Psychoanalysis adheres to a case-by-case perspective, embracing the notion that each subject is unique and necessitates a distinct treatment trajectory. This presupposes that every analysis will differ in its substance, its progression, its frequency, and its duration. A common characteristic across most sessions is that one speaks freely about anything that comes to mind and delve deeply into the issues that arise. This exploration is guided by the one’s free associations and the analyst’s interventions and interpretations. Typically, sessions conclude at a pivotal or significant moment, fostering a period of reflection and association between sessions. This is a distinctive feature of the Lacanian orientation—the variability in session length.

First Sessions

The first few analysis sessions provide an ideal opportunity to start putting things into words. What motivated you to seek psychotherapy? What are the obstacles you hope to work-through? During these initial sessions, we will assess the suitability of a psychoanalytic approach to your needs. Following the preliminary sessions, and contingent upon the decision to proceed, we will establish the frequency and duration of your sessions and start working.

I warmly welcome individuals of all identities, genders, and affiliations without prejudice. My practice is committed to embracing all forms of otherness and all modes of existence. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our interaction, ensuring all information disclosed during sessions remains strictly private.
